1/100 MG Aegis

I entered this build in the HLJ Playing with Plamo competition, so now that that’s over, I’m blogging my build.SAM_0299Starting with the box, it’s a decent sized MG kit. I’ve not had much luck with transforming kits, so I took this as a challenge. SAM_0300 I wanted to go with a gradient on the colour scheme, with the centre of the kit orange, the majority red, and then fading through purple to blue. I did a test on this egg tray to see how it would go. I put down a base of Createx pearl red, and then overlaid Tamiya clear yellow, red and blue accordingly.SAM_0302And here are the pieces that are going to get the treatment.SAM_0303 I used the Alclad white undercoat to ensure the pieces came out nice and bright.SAM_0304 And I chromed up sections of the inner frame.SAM_0305 SAM_0306 SAM_0307 SAM_0308 SAM_0309 The white sections got masked, so that I could paint them half white, half grey.SAM_0310 All these sections got modded.SAM_0311 I added plasticard on the back of the shield.SAM_0312 The gun had masked pieces for that I carried through the paint scheme from the main body of the mech.SAM_0313 SAM_0314 I added a touch of chrome on the edges to help bring out the overlaid clear Tamiya colours.SAM_0315 SAM_0316Now you can see how the shading colours are starting to appear. SAM_0317 SAM_0318Now with the completed side skirt sections, all shaded and detailed up.SAM_0319 SAM_0320 SAM_0321 The shading with the tail section is working well.SAM_0324 SAM_0325 SAM_0326 SAM_0327DSC01501 DSC01502 SAM_0328 SAM_0332-2TGN_1971 TGN_1964 TGN_1962 TGN_1961 TGN_1959 TGN_1958 TGN_1957 TGN_1956

  1. Love the shocks of yellow and Blue-purple graduations.
Overall your Aegis has a pleasingly unique colour scheme, thumbs up from me.

  2. I think the yellow actually comes through better in the pictures than on the model itself. I’m very happy with the shading, and will be looking to use this technique again in the future.
