HG 1/144 Exia Trans-Am part 1

I’m not usually one to build HG kits, but for the Exia that came with the GN Arms, I decided to build it, and to do a full Trans-Am mode paint job. I researched a few pictures from the anime to get a feel for Trans-Am as it’s quite a while since I watched 00.DSC05129Trans-Am isn’t just painting every piece red! I wanted to make the blue pieces red with a hint of the blue peeping through, and I wanted red panel lines on the white pieces, with a pearl red look to them. DSC05130 This is how it turned out. I’m pretty darn happy actually. There’s not much blue coming through, but in the right light they’re vaguely purple which is about right for the anime look. I just used some Createx pearl blue first, and then a very light coat of pearl red before finishing with a light coat of Tamiya clear red.DSC05131 The white pieces were all panel lined with Tamiya clear red first. I let it dry and then took a q-tip to the pieces with some Tamiya thinner to remove the excess. This worked really well on the bare plastic. The pearl finish is a mix of Createx pearl white (which is semi-transparent) and some Createx transparent red.DSC05133 Here you can see how nicely the red panel lines come through on the GN Drive.DSC05134I did use some of the foil stickers where appropriate. I think they look fine in context. More pictures later to follow later.
